Slowed by age, Bobby Hull retired from NHL and WHA after playing 1.063 NHL games and 411 WHA games. He was ultimately voted ten times as the First-Team-All-Star left winger and twice as the Second-Team All-Star left winger. In 1968-69, Hull broke his w record with 58 goals and earned 107 points. Soon after, he dethroned Dickie Moore by earning 97 points, one more than the record set by Moore. However, he completed 54 goals in that season, which perplexed the entire Chicago stadium. He was paid back by a 7-minute standing ovation on his 51st goal. In 1966, Hull outshined Bernie Geoffrion and Maurice Richard by scoring more than 50 goals in a single season. In 1961, Bobby Hull gave a hundred and dragged Blackhawks to victory, bagging the Stanley Cup. Further, he received more of them in the seasons 1961-66.
Shortly after, Hull led the team to victory scoring his first Art Ross Trophy. The number was chosen in admiration of his childhood inspiration Gordie Howe. Later, he switched to 9, which became Hull’s identity. Hull presumably no longer will appear at Hawks promotional events and such, as he previously did at the annual Hawks Convention and Winter Classic games.Īs the Hawks begin the long process of repairing their image in the Chicago sports community, this small move represents an encouraging step in the right direction.Luckily, Bobby Hull had an impressive start in shu debut year wearing the numbers 16 and 7 for the Chicago Blackhawks where he finished second in the Calder Memorial Trophy. His statue still stands, alongside Mikita’s, outside the United Center on Madison Street, and that’s probably not going anywhere in the near future - although the old Hawks statue across the street that was vandalized by Native American mascot protestors in 2020 seemingly has been removed permanently. Hull had 1,153 points in 1,036 games for the Hawks between 19, then another 638 points in 411 WHA games before retiring in 1980. Hull, a two-time Hart Trophy winner as the NHL’s most valuable player, a three-time Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL’s leading points-getter and a seven-time league leader in goals, spent the first two-thirds of his lengthy career with the Hawks before jumping to the World Hockey Association with the Jets.
